Phulka chapati, also known simply as phulka or roti, is a type of Indian flatbread made from whole wheat flour. It is a staple in Indian cuisine and is typically served alongside various curries, vegetables, or lentils.





To make phulka chapati, you first prepare a dough by mixing whole wheat flour (atta) with water and a pinch of salt, kneading until it forms a smooth and elastic dough. The dough is then divided into small balls, which are rolled out into thin circles using a rolling pin and a flat surface, such as a wooden board or countertop.
The rolled-out dough circles are then cooked on a hot griddle or tawa. After a brief period, when small bubbles start to form on the surface of the chapati, it is flipped over. At this point, the chapati is cooked directly over an open flame, which causes it to puff up, giving it its characteristic texture. Finally, the cooked phulka chapati is removed from the flame and lightly brushed with ghee or oil before serving.
