Cajun Trout Fry
Ingredients:
• 2-4 freshly caught trout fillets (any size)
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp paprika
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 1 tsp onion powder
• 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
• 1 tsp salt
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
• 1 cup buttermilk
• Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
1. Clean and pat dry trout fillets.
2. Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper.
3. Dip each fillet in flour mixture, coating both sides.
4. Dip floured fillet in buttermilk, coating completely.
5. Roll in flour mixture again, pressing coating onto fish.
6. Heat 1/2-inch vegetable oil in skillet over medium-high.
7. Fry trout 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
8. Drain on paper towels.
Alternative Cooking Methods:
• Grill: Brush with oil, season with Cajun seasoning, and grill over medium heat.
• Pan-sear: Add oil to skillet, sear 3-4 minutes per side.
• Bake: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), bake 8-10 minutes.
Additional Tips:
• Use fresh, corn-fed trout for optimal flavor.
• Adjust Cajun seasoning to desired spice level.
• Serve with lemon wedges and favorite sides (e.g., hushpuppies, coleslaw).
